Disney Unboxing – Giant Rice Krispie Treat Mickey Mouse Cake!!!

May 30, 2015 No Comment

You’ve gawked at them on display at the back of Goofy’s Candy Co., both amazed and also baffled at who in their right mind would spend $50 on a Rice Krispie treat … all before proceeding to drop half of that on stuff out of the candy case anyways!

I’ve said many a time how awesome it would be to splurge on one of these things for a birthday with plenty of friends and family to share in the joy of slowly dismantling Mickey’s face bite by bite, and that was the plan for my son’s 1st birthday back in March until about five cast members deep of misinformation led us to understand that these GIANT Rice Krispie treats are only available at Downtown Disney.

Not at Seashore Sweets on the Boardwalk.

Not at the Main Street Confectionary at the Magic Kingdom.

You can ONLY buy these gigantic, little beauties at Goofy’s Candy Co. in the Marketplace at Downtown Disney!!!

But now that I’ve got that off my chest, let’s get to the fun stuff because I know you’re dying just as much as I was to see just exactly how these ginormous treats are delivered when one plunks down fifty big ones into Goofy’s candy coffers in exchange for enough Rice Krispies to send any adult into a wonderfully sugar-induced candy coma…

The box that these things come in is pretty huge – 18.5″ x 15″ x 5.5″, to be exact. Anyone who’s ever felt like a lush buying candy ain’t felt nothing until they’ve carried out one of these things that literally takes up almost the entire counter! Luckily the box just so happened to fit almost perfectly underneath our stroller so I wasn’t forced to carry this thing all the way back through Downtown Disney to the parking garage… 😉

I was admittedly surprised when I saw that these things are actually good for a couple of months, assuming that the handwritten 5/5 is when it was made and the expiration date of 8/2 is some three months away! I asked the cashier if they did anything special to store them cold or something, but she said they were just kept in food storage in the back … apparently Goofy knows how to make candy that lasts!

The first look inside the box – a large, plastic bag appears to be the cake’s first line of defense…

…and as you can see, the length and width of the cake take up nearly the entire size of the box! My wife refuses to call it a “cake,” but I personally don’t see how anything big enough to feed 20 people can be deemed merely “a treat”…

…and one last piece of parchment paper before the final reveal…

Who’s the giant Rice Krispie cake that’s made for you and me?!

M-I-C-K-E-Y    T-R-E-A-T!!!

One day, my son, all of this will be yours…

…or maybe not… 😀

And here we see our beloved cake – sans nose – because, well, it turns out that utensils are required to carve up a three-inch thick mound of Rice-y Krispie-y goodness … preferably utensils made of hardened steel, forged in the heart of a dying star, if any are available. I do not recommend using mere plastic utensils, as I had to pluck pieces of both plastic fork and knife out of Mickey’s head after thinking they were worthy of piercing its thick, sugary hide…

And here’s a cross-section, for those of you foodies who are into that sort of thing. This is a piece from where ear meets head, and as you can see the same awesome chocolate used for the frosting on top is actually used as sort of a paste to hold the pieces together as well. If only chocolate was used to hold everything together in our lives, the world would be a better place!

Needless to say, a giant Rice Krispie treat cake may not be the dessert for every occasion and many will only ever observe its magnificence through the glass at their favorite candy store, but for birthdays and anniversaries and when you happen to be exceptionally hungry, there’s nothing quite like the biggest Rice Krispie treat ever – shaped like the most famous mouse in the world!

It all started with just a mouse, indeed. 😉
